  3. FROM HACKERS TO YUPPIES

  5. Once upon a time in a land far,far away there was a strange place populated
  6. by crazed, uncombed headed people called hackers and crackers. The hackers
  7. were crackers and the crackers were hackers. They hacked into other 
  8. computers - often just snooping but sometimes doing real damage. Then
  9. various networks coalesced (see History of the .net - this mag) and the
  10. worldwide Internet was born. The hackers were left behind as the computer
  11. Yuppies took over the scene and instead of talking compu-gibberish
  12. started downloading the latest stock quotations instead.

  14. Now the CompuYuppies are in control. The Internet is geared up to serving
  15. them and the educational establishments, whilst the chitter-chatter of
  16. electronic mail covers every subject under the sun rather than just which 
  17. group as just cracked what game and can I download Super Streetfighter
  18. Turbo Challenge XXI and what do you need in exchange....

  20. But even now the the ever evolving world of the Web, the times are changing
  21. as the media and the general public more and more, at the moment at business
  22. but soon for leisure too use the .net. Videos and console games will be
  23. downloaded legally from it, direct onto you composite,comprehensive
  24. all-purpose home entertainment system...
